Are you ready for New Canaan’s Village Fair and Sidewalk Sale tomorrow? We are!
Some history for you: the start of the Village Fair & Sidewalk Sale was actually in the 1920’s. This photo is from July 1924, showing the first “Street Fair” to benefit the Civic League. It took place on the lawn in front/back of the Town Hall, where sale booths were set up. As people entered, they received a button & were then allowed to explore the booths & sales.Entertainment at the fair consisted of pony rides, a rifle range, a midway sideshow, dance performances & dance contests.
And of course, traffic was heavy (note the cars parked along Main Street)- some things don’t change!
