From September through November, we will be providing tours for school children from New Canaan and surrounding areas and again from March through June. Students visit four areas of our museums; the Hearth and Craft Rooms in the Hanford-Silliman House, the Tool Museum, and the Rock School. In each area, they learn about what their lives would have been like if they had lived in the 1700′s, and they get a chance to engage in an interactive experience, such as carding wool or acting as students in a one-room schoolhouse. Teachers are enthusiastic about the experience their students receive; in fact, through word-of-mouth, the program has been growing over the years, as more schools learn of what we have to offer. Because of the growth of this program, we are always looking for new volunteer docents. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a docent call the Society.
