Connecticut Art Colonies: the Artists of Cos Cob, Lyme, and Silvermine

Art colonies flourished in the early 20th century during a period of sweeping social, cultural, and artistic change in America. Art colonies tended to form in small towns that provided affordable living, abundant scenery for painting, and relatively easy access to large cities where artists could sell their work.

ArtScapades will look at the most well-known art colonies in Connecticut, putting them in context with what was going on in the art world at the time. Artists included in this discussion are John Twachtman, J. Alden Weir, Theodore Robinson, Henry Ward Ranger, Childe Hassam, Solon Borglum and D. Putnam Brinley, among others.

The event is free to members and $5 for all others. Refreshments will be served.
