There are literally thousands of prints, documents, photographs, ephemera and objects to explore at the Museum.

Some of these include:

Whitman Bailey Collection

An extensive collection of the line drawings by New Canaan artist Whitman Bailey.

Dolls + Toys

Housed in the Hanford-Silliman House, the Museum has dozens of dolls, teddy bears, and other stuffed animals from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s, including dolls by famed doll-maker Madame Alexander.

Maps

The Museum has more than fifty maps for New Canaan from the mid-1800s through 2000.

Charlie Miller Collection

The Museum’s collection features hundreds of drawings by Miller, the illustrator for the New Canaan Advertiser. They include buildings, holiday scenes, animals, and political satire.

Noyes Collection

A collection of sermons and letters from the Noyes family, who were preachers at the Congregational Church. It is one of the NCM&HS’s largest and oldest collections.

Walter Richards Collection

This collection of prints by award-winning artist and New Canaan resident, Walter Richards, include scenes from New Canaan, landscapes, and buildings.

Taggart Collection

In 2017, Bill Taggart donated his family’s photographs, records, and memorabilia to the NCM&HS. This collection, which was on exhibit in 2018, highlights the life and work of four generations of this venerable New Canaan family.

BACK TO COLLECTIONS

We are excited to announce that construction on the Jim and Dede Bartlett Center for New Canaan History is underway! Events will occur as scheduled, but because of the logistical challenges in the main building, the portrait exhibition is available by appointment only. Please contact ngeary@nchistory.org.

WE WILL BE CLOSED FOR RESEARCH UNTIL June 4th.
