I Do: The History of Wedding Fashion and Tradition

This Exhibition was on view at the Museum
June - September 2022

The extensive exhibit highlighted some of the most spectacular wedding dresses from the Museum’s permanent clothing and textile collection, as well as the stories of the women who wore them, and background on the changes that have occurred over time in how people mark their special day.  Given its popularity, the show was extended but ultimately had to come down.

Now it lives virtually with detailed images of each dress, an audio narration by the chief curator Charlotte Engel of the didactic signage, a 3-D tour of the gallery space, and the slideshow of additional dresses that could not be displayed given their condition and/or fragility.

We are excited to announce that construction on the Jim and Dede Bartlett Center for New Canaan History is underway! Events will occur as scheduled, but because of the logistical challenges in the main building, the portrait exhibition is available by appointment only. Please contact ngeary@nchistory.org.

WE WILL BE CLOSED FOR RESEARCH UNTIL June 4th.
